St Scholastica’s Kindergarten is a Catholic based kindergarten located in Burwood, Victoria.
We provide full-day programs for 3 and 4 year old groups, as well as extended care hours.
We believe that learning comes through the children’s interests and ideas, and with the important role that relationships play in children’s education. Children are encouraged to work at their own pace, to explore and extend their own learning, so that their love of learning is nurtured.
We pride ourselves on our strong connection with our local community, and encourage our families to be involved in many of the activities at St Scholastica’s Kindergarten.
We are a member of the Whitehorse Pre-School Association and offer our pre-school services to all families in Burwood and surrounding suburbs including Box Hill, East Burwood, Mount Waverley, Forest Hill, Blackburn and Vermont.
St Scholastica’s Kindergarten was established in 1964 by the St Scholastica’s Parish, to extend the services provided by the church to the local community, and today, is the one of only two kindergarten's offering a Catholic based curriculum in Melbourne.
We value and recognise that parents are children’s first educators and we encourage parents and families to become involved in all aspects of the kindergarten, to work together to assist the children to reach their full potential. Parents have the opportunity to join the Committee and have a voice in the organisation of the Kindergarten.
At St. Scholastica’s Kindergarten we:
are committed to The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia and the Australian Early Childhood Association Code of Ethics;
believe in the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels and centered in the Doctrine and Tradition of the Catholic faith and aim to follow them;
aid to nurture this faith development in an environment of loving care and acceptance;
believe in promoting greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander ways of knowing and being;
deliver a curriculum driven by the ideas, excitement, information and questions from the children and aims to build intrinsic motivation and a long term love of learning in children;
support and encourage learning through play, believing play is an essential element to young children’s development;
believe that high expectations within the learning environment, is essential to the overall development of all children, and that the expectation that educators and parents hold, is the one that children will aspire to;
believe that the quality of early relationships, experiences and environments strongly influence children later in life;

believe in equity in regard to children’s capacity to succeed regardless of diverse circumstances and abilities;

To provide a program of pre-school education in which Catholic principles are acknowledged and taught;
To support and promote the principles of pre-school education generally;
To establish and maintain the kindergarten which will function in accordance with the standards approved by Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs.
